Advocacy Efforts

Welcome to the Connecticut Association for Marriage and Family Therapy Legislative Committee.

The CTAMFT Legislative Committee works in collaboration with the CTAMFT Board in lobbying our CT delegation for legislative issues important to our membership such as Medicare reimbursement and parity with other mental health providers in Managed Care coverage.

This is an excellent opportunity to learn about the state legislative process and to join a dynamic and dedicated group of your fellow members in moving Marriage and Family Therapists to the forefront in public recognition as highly valued mental health providers.

Recent activities:  The committee meets monthly to define goals, educate ourselves with the legislative process, develop tools to educate the public and Legislators about the Marriage and Family Profession and learn how AAMFT resources, such as the Legal and Government Affairs, support the CTAMFT on issues like Medicare reimbursement, Managed Care and federal funding for MFTs in schools.

Lobbyist Jane Murphy spoke at the Legislative Committee Meeting on Friday, February 8, 2008, at the Marriott Courtyard in Cromwell.  She presented a summary of the legislative process and the important role that CTAMFT members have in influencing the outcome of bills that directly impact the Marriage and Family Therapy profession.

Calendar:  Upcoming events and speakers will be posted regularly.

Monthly meetings:  Upcoming meetings are scheduled to follow regular Board of Directors meetings the second Friday of each month, except December, July and August.
